The Socratic Constraint, Systematic Injustice, and the Return of Callicles
Talk by Timothy Hinton (NC State) in the Philosophy Colloquium Series
Abstract: Is it possible to lead a decent life in a society marred by significant injustice? In this talk, I consider that question as it applies not to those who are victims of social injustice, but to those who are its beneficiaries. I argue, taking a broadly Socratic position, that the answer has to be ‘no.’ I also consider the bearing on my answer of the new wave of disturbingly anti-egalitarian right-wing politics.
